Chet Baker's vocal work was as distinctive as his trumpet playing, though on debut vocal set 'Chet Baker Sings' the
radicalism comes coached in a delicate and clear-toned wrapping that is innocent and vulnerable. His first vocal
recordings, made in February 1954, are featured on the second half of this enticing LP, the first six songs cut in July
1956; outstanding moments include 'There Will Never Be Another You' and a rendition of 'My Funny Valentine' that Baker
makes all his own, the simple drum, bass, and piano combo leaving room for Chet's voice and trumpet to alternate the
spotlight. Another West Coast cool jazz classic.
