Instrumentalism

Benton, Charley

Instrumentalism
All acoustic, original compositions, in the American Primitive Guitar tradition of John Fahey, Leo Kottke and Jack Rose.  Charley Benton lives in Ojai, CA. A versatile self-taught musician, he has an affinity for the unique and homemade. Instruments played on this album include an 1844 parlor guitar, a ukulele made of Lucite and a guitar built from a gas can. Charley calls this one Ethyl. On the song "Tinderbox" he plays bottleneck on an old cigar box with a hand-carved wooden neck and three tuners. This is no novelty album; Benton draws deep from American roots. The music is genuine and heartfelt. 500 pressed.
