Chypho
Episodes In Oceanography
Propelled straight into the depths, we are immediately enveloped with the welcoming and recognizable synth textures we
came to know in the Entomongaku albums, yet with a very different aesthetic. With "Aluminaut Rescures Alvin" the tone
flips from the microcosm of the insect world, to the macrocosm of boundless seas, teeming with life. "Abiogenesis"
stands out with its high pitched synths, groovy delayed bass, and wild percussion, giving the track a frantic, yet
organic feel. Another notable track is "A Squid and Her Eggs". This song is a great example of how dynamic Chypho's
works are, given that even though the album portrays the vastness of the ocean, it somehow still feels intimate and
gentle at times. In all of Chyphos works, there is one thing they all have in common: Story. Chypho is extremely adept
at illustrating scenes through his music, and Episodes in Oceanography is no stranger to this. While whole albums of his
may not necessarily contain a strict linear narrative, they are cohesive in that they serve as collections of stories,
or Episodes if you would. All these scenes are presented in such a way as to convey specific Ideas while also being open
to the interpretations of the listener. One could listen to this album over and over again and still find new hidden
details in all its trenches.
