The Edge

Deleyaman

The Edge
Deleyaman, founded in 2000 by the American musician and multi-instrumentalist Aret Madilian, create a kind of music which is difficult to categorize. They are the first alternative band to have included the ancient wind instrument called the "duduk" in their line-up and compositions. Deleyaman's musical influences are vast; from post-punk to darkwave to ambient, minimalist, atmospheric music, their enigmatic sound reaches far beyond the music heard in mainstream genres. Music critics have often likened Deleyaman's first three albums to some of Dead Can Dance's work. The band members of Deleyaman don't pay much attention to trends. They follow their own creative path off the beaten tracks. They've released five albums to date and continue to create a timeless music, defying the narrow vision of single genres; their 6th album will be released on July 8, 2014. Der Spiegel (Germany) this week: "Listening: the most important music of the week" ...Again and again I sighed to Deleyaman's quite wonderful "The Edge". How come I had never heard of the band? Here indeed is their sixth album of the Euro-American band for the high arts, empowered by two very sorrowful voices: Aret Madilian and Beatrice Valantin.
