Recorded at Ballintubbert House, Ireland, The Talkies deals with the phenomenon of sound, as artistic communication
becomes sensory rather than cognitive. Lyrically, the language is decontextualized, allowing it to rock seamlessly
between the absurd and the every day. The sound of the record mirrors the distorted realism of Dara's lyrics. To take
life's monotony and bring it into the realm of the absurd simply by exposing it; to look at the everyday, then to look
at it again/and again/ and again/ until it becomes swollen and distorted to the point of surrealism... Like the house
itself, like the recordings, the songs are living and breathing, undergoing continual metamorphosis.
