Hudson, Keith
Pick A Dub
While perhaps not be a household name, reggae producer/vocalist Keith Hudson was there in the beginning. A classmate of
Bob Marley's and Delroy Wilson's, Hudson was hanging around Sir Coxsone's sound system in the early 1960s, and he would
be on hand for every innovation in Jamaican music for the following two decades.
Originally released in 1974, Pick A Dub is the first of several Hudson masterpieces. It is often cited as being the
first dedicated dub record (predating King Tubby, Lee Perry and others by a year or two) but this LP is more than just a
pioneering effort - it's a goldmine of bubbling, burbling genius. Featuring the Soul Syndicate along with Augustus Pablo
and the Wailers' Barrett brothers, this album is truly essential.
