Forget about seeingany film with a Cliff Martinez soundtrack is a film worth HEARING! The ex-Red Hot Chili Pepper excels in creating sparse, unsettling scoresthat's why he is the go-to for directors like Steven Soderbergh (Sex, Lies, and Videotape; Solaris; Contagion; Traffic) and, of course, Nicolas Winding Refn, for whom Martinez scored Drive, Only God Forgives, and this film, 2016's The Neon Demon. Martinez himself described the first half of this fashion model freakfest of a film as "a melodrama like Valley of the Dolls, and the second half is like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," and for that mindbending blend he composed a hypnotic, electronic masterpiece in the grand tradition of such European masters as Goblin, Vangelis, and Tangerine Dream.
