Antologia 2: Obras Para La Orquesta Experimental De Instrumentos Nativ

HIGHLIGHTS A landmark double album by Bolivian composer Cergio Prudencio, deepening his decades-long work with the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN), one of the most radical ensembles in contemporary Latin American music. Works composed between 1989 and 2014 that merge Aymara musical principles with experimental composition, creating dense, immersive sound worlds built from traditional Andean instruments. DESCRIPTION Buh Records presents 'Anthology 2': Works for the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos, a double album that further explores the work of Bolivian composer Cergio Prudencio (La Paz, 1955) and his close relationship with the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN), a project he co-founded in 1980 and where he remains emeritus director. Like Anthology 1, widely praised by the international specialized press, this second volume continues to reveal the conceptual, aesthetic, and sonic scope of one of the most radical experiences in contemporary Latin American music. The OEIN is a unique ensemble in the international musical landscape. Its approach is grounded in the use of traditional Andean highland instruments across multiple dimensions: materiality, sound production, tuning, and cultural context. It draws on core principles of Aymara music -such as the "arca-ira" alternation, the formation of large instrumental "troops," and the communal energy of the "wakiña"- integrating them into a creative process that brings together tradition and contemporaneity. 'Anthology 2' brings together works composed between 1989 and 2014, performed by the OEIN and its chamber ensemble. Cantos crepusculares (1999), written for the Donaueschingen Festival, unfolds as a sonic continuum of shifting atmospheres evoking the changing light of dusk. Cantos ofertorios (2008), conceived during residencies in Bellagio, incorporates multiphonics, dense textures, and a performative gesture that references Aymara prayers and offerings. The second disc opens with Sawuta saltanakani (2003), a foundational work for the OEIN Chamber Ensemble, exploring the multiphonic interiority of the siku through parallel blocks and kinetic displacements. It is followed by Cantos de piedra (1989), a tribute to Tiahuanaku, articulating sonic masses of tarkas, microtonal guitars, and sikus. Cantos de tierra (1990) addresses the Andean concept of time as spatial permanence. Finally, Lamento (2014), written for the film Juana Azurduy by Jorge Sanjinés, presents an Aymara-inflected melody that gradually dissolves into increasingly subtle sounds. Cergio Prudencio - Anthology 2 is released by Buh Records in digital format and as a limited double vinyl edition, featuring selection and notes by the composer. With recording and mastering by Gustavo Navarre and design by Gonzalo de Montreuil, this double album stands as a key body of work within contemporary Latin American musical creation.
