Milano New Wave 2014 isn't just a title reminding its 1980-83 version, a compilation designed to document a specific period of the very first wave scene of Milan. but it is also a very clear statement of intent. The Evolution of an Underground Music Scene is the perfect subtitle of this collection, a kind of "how we are thirty years later," where you can find almost the same protagonists of the first wave. Forget any nostalgic thoughts or the idea of a reunion of friends, though, because the ten tunes that make up this vinyl are perfectly immersed in today's Milan, as it was reasonable to expect. And if the name of the album is literally epitomized, especially by State Of Art, Out Of Limbo, Sound Of LLL, Ivories and La Form, in their respective efforts, all included among the new wave, the white funk and some 4AD style baroque embroidery, the other protagonists choose other ways to spread the Milan's nouvelle vague: psychedelia for Peter Sellers & The Hollywood Party and electronic drives or italo disco for Atelier Folie, ltaloconnection, Sigmatibet and 2+2=5. However. aside from the excellent musical contribution, what is passionately expressed in the grooves of this vinyl is an urge to drive with the utmost care through an underground route started over thirty years ago, that followed with (more or less) consistency the changes of a complicated metropolis like Milan.
