Paul Weller is a British musician and singer-songwriter. Starting with the band The Jam (1976-82), Weller went on to
branch out musically to a more soulful style with The Style Council (1983-89). In 1991 he established himself as a
successful solo artist,[ and remains a respected singer, lyricist and guitarist. By the mid-'90s, he had released three
successful albums that were both critically acclaimed and massively popular in England, where contemporary bands like
Ocean Colour Scene were citing him as an influence. Just as importantly, many observers, while occasionally criticizing
the trad rock nature of his music, acknowledged that Weller was one of the few rock veterans who had managed to stay
vital within the second decade of his career.
