Puente, Tito & His Orchestra
Up until now a very rare and hard to find audiophile digital recording of Tito Puente and his Orchestra, in Tito's words "playing Salsa Pure". Tito Puente was known by many names "King of the Mambo" and "El Rey" The King in Spanish. Close friends and fellow musicians also called him "Ol' Cotton Head" and "Le Papa" the father! If you live in the USA and speak Spanish Tito would be your Elvis, Sinatra or Michael Jackson. Tito received 5 Grammy's in a career that spanned 6 decades in which he made over 150 albums. This was his favourite salsa big band digital recording. Tito is widely considered to be the godfather of Latin Jazz and Salsa devoting his life to performing Latin music and earning the reputation as the master of percussion. He is noted for merging Latin American Rhythms with contemporary Jazz and Big Band Salsa music between 1949 and 2001. Salsa in Spanish means Spice and Hot Sauce. After the first days recording Tito revelled in the new digital medium and invited a few of his friends, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Barretto, Patato Valdez and Mongo Santamaria for the second days recording at Ralph Mercado's club, Broadway 96 on Broadway and 96th street in New York city. It was a sight to see Tito and his 26 piece salsa orchestra, 6 trombones, 8 trumpets and 6 saxophones and the gods of Latin music grooving along. Samples galore for the young music makers in their bedrooms - slam this on your 5.1 surround sound system and Tito Puente and his Orchestra performs in your living room.
