With IN THE WAKE OF FIRE, Rosegarden Funeral Party take everything that made MARTYR compelling and push it toward something larger, more dramatic and more ambitious. The guitars still burn, the rhythms still carry the urgency of post-punk, and Leah Lane remains an overwhelming presence at the center of the music but the surrounding arrangements have expanded. Synthesizers, electronic textures and atmospheric interludes give the album a sense of scale that makes it feel less like a collection of songs and more like a complete journey. Released in 2021, IN THE WAKE OF FIRE sits comfortably between gothic rock, dark wave, post-punk and new wave, yet it refuses to remain inside any single category. Rosegarden Funeral Party have always understood the theatrical possibilities of goth music, but here that instinct becomes almost cinematic. The choruses are bigger, the dynamics more extreme and the emotional stakes noticeably higher.
