The title could hardly be more appropriate. Songs of Heartbreak collects the early work of Rosegarden Funeral Party and presents a band for whom heartbreak is anything but a quiet affair. Across 17 tracks, driving rhythms, shimmering guitars and dark post-punk atmospheres collide with the commanding and deeply expressive voice of Leah Lane. The compilation brings together material from the band's debut EP The Chopping Block and debut album Martyr, with an acoustic version of "Ghost of You" closing the collection. Rather than feeling like a simple archive of early recordings, however, Songs of Heartbreak offers an impressive overview of a band already developing a remarkably distinctive identity.
