Jumping Jacks (clear)

Siouxsie & The Banshees

Jumping Jacks (clear)
By the beginning of 1981, Siouxsie & The Banshees had released three albums to date, and were planning their fourth. Recorded at Surrey Sound studio, Juju was released on 19 June 81. Featuring new guitarist John McGeoch - formerly of Magazine - the album met with much critical acclaim, notably for McGeoch's un-orthodox playing and Siouxsie's ever-creative vocals. Later deemed a classic of post-punk, in 1995, Melody Maker writer Cathi Unsworth described Juju as "one of the most influential British albums ever". The Banshees had been performing cuts from the new record live since February 81, and by March they were in the full throes of a major UK and European tour. Among the finest gig the band played during this jaunt was on 7th July at De Nieuwe Kade, in Tiel, the Netherlands. Recorded for live radio broadcast across much of mainland Europe, the show was a dynamic performance and is still remembered by many early fans as a milestone event. This new double LP set now features this remarkable live performance for the first time on vinyl. Bonus cuts here come from the Banshees equally strong concert, a couple of months before while still touring in the UK, when they played at Warwick University on 7th March.
