Rarely have a band's debut albums generated so much excitement as Arde Bogotá. The Cartagena quartet delivers on all of them in "La Noche" (Sony Music, 21), their first full-length, ten-track debut where they show us what rock should sound like in 2021. To begin with, the fact that they're creating a conceptual work is already surprising given the speed at which music is consumed these days. They explain what a pre-pandemic night of partying was like: from the pre-party rounds in "Abajo," reaching the climax when they achieve the long-awaited "El beso," to the search for an "Exoplanet" where that new casual relationship can work. From the first listen, they manage to transport you to that magical night, and much of this is due to the magnetic and clear lyrics they've created. But, best of all, each song works perfectly independently. And, of course, it's worth highlighting the freshness of their sound. Influenced by bands like Héroes del Silencio and Supersubmarina, they've taken the sound of "Antiaéreo," their first hit, and elevated it in each of these ten tracks. In the first half of the LP, we find formulas closer to pure rock like "Tijeras," others that border on funk like "Cariño," and indie hits like "A lo oscuro." These are undoubtedly the fastest-paced tracks on the album, as, after the first five tracks, the pace slows down, coinciding with the story of the album. That frenetic night begins to slow down, and we notice it in "Millenial" and "Tan alto como tus dudas," more stripped down by instruments and closer to pop; and especially in "El Dorado" and "Exoplanet," indie ballads that round out this great work. We can clearly say that "La Noche" is one of the best debut albums we've heard so far this year. In this way, Arde Bogotá, with just fifteen songs under their belt, has positioned itself as one of the most interesting groups to follow within the national and Murcia music scene, which is saying something.
