Nomen Est Numen (to name is to know) is full of social critique, scientific wondering, interpersonal examination and over the top self parody that shows Davis' lust for life and his fearless way with words. It's those qualities that have brought him comparisons to Bob Dylan and his idol Loudon Wainwright III. On this album Davis utilizes the Minneapolis band Hindu Rodeo as a backup band, giving the album more of a Rock & Roll feel than his earlier releases.
