Detroit's legendary Volebeats have been making critically acclaimed classic albums since 1989, when "Ain't No Joke" wandered out of left field and into the hearts about 15 fans. A few years and personnel changes later, the moody country rock of "Upnorth" captured the attention of a growing Americana obsessed audience. By the time of 1996's "Sky in the Ocean", the Volebeats toured around the U.S. playing a country influenced rock and roll hybrid complete with surf guitar virtuosly, Beatlesgue harmonies, and lyrics that evoke the strangeness and gloom of the Midwestern industrial wasteland they call home.
